Numbness or Tingling Sensations
The feeling of having a foot "fall asleep" is a familiar one. This same combination of numbness and tingling can occur in any region of the body and may be caused by a wide variety of disorders. Sensations such as these are abnormal and caused by altered sensory nerve function – usually caused by an injury.
The extent and location of the injury to the nerves will determine the severity of such symptoms. For example, a neck injury may cause you to feel numbness anywhere along your arm or hand, while a low back injury can cause numbness or tingling down the back of your leg. Pressure on the spinal nerves could be due to a herniated disk.
Chiropractors are well trained to determine the exact location of the problem causing these symptoms as well as to treat them. If proper care is not given to injuries to your nerves, complications may arise including but not limited to weakening and/or loss of muscle mass.
